Re: Need Help Selecting Our Wedding Tree
Not crazy at all - trust me I'm CrazyED! It's fun to do it that way as well. Once again, I will direct your attention to a thread on the Quality Deer Management Association forum. A group of hunters and land managers (myself included) did the same and I think you will find this information very valu...

Re: Need Help Selecting Our Wedding Tree
I have been following another thread about liberty apples on the Quality Deer Managment Association (QDMA) forum. Here's a great post that talks about liberty apples. "A ripe Liberty is a fantastic apple. I live in southeast Ohio and I've been picking Liberty for the last 5 days. They're still ...

Re: Leaning Lodi After Storm--What to do?
I'm no expert but i would Definitely stake to prevent additional damage. I'd try and probably push to get that 60 degree blow at least back 30 degrees...closer to straight. Nice and easy see how it goes. It's very important to stake young fruit trees.

Expanding my small orchard
Hi All, I am new to this board but lately I've been getting more and more into fruit trees and I found this resource so I figured i'd say hi and introduce myself and talk about my orchard project. My family owns a 160 acre farm in Central Wisconsin (USA). My ancestors settled there many years ago. T...

Powdery Mildew? http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/tfipm/mildew.htm Just like Cedar Apple Rust (your other problem), powdery mildew is also a fungus. I think your best bet is to learn how to spray your trees with fungicides in the early season. You could start with a basic fruit tree spray like Bonid...

Re: Treating Rust
While I am only a novice at growing and maintaining fruit trees, the only way I know to avoid Cedar Apple Rust (C.A.R) is to to use Fungicides during the spring season (varies depending on your geography - typically late April through May) or plant resistant varieties. Clearly you've got some establ...

Re: Bad Honny Crisp tree
Is the tree getting full sun at least 8 hours a day?
How is the soil quality below the tree?
Have you ever done any pruning on this tree?
Have you ever sprayed the tree? Does the tree look healthy, any signs of fungus/disease/insect damage???

Re: must i cross polinate macintosh
While i don't have any MAC trees personally, from the quick goggling I did it sounds like another tree is recommended. I would recommend getting an additional early blooming apple or a crab apple like a Dolgo if you have the space to accommodate an additional tree. Not only will it help with pollina...

Re: Brown Spots
Looks like Cedar Apple Rust to me. Do you have Red Cedar trees in the area? Do you spray these trees? I have a 2nd leaf Goldrush on MM.111 planted in 2010 that is showing some slight signs of CAR. Goldrush is a Disease Resistent tree, however it is slightly susceptible to CAR - my case seems to be m...
