I planted them about 1 1/2 months ago and they were doing very well. I don't think it's transplant shock. It literally looks like little specs of rust on some of the leaves. When I bought them they were in pots.

I just planted apple trees this year and was told they were about 3 - 4 years old. One is a Pink Lady and the other is a Fuji. Both are regular size. As the title says the leaves look to have started to develop rust on them. They have budded already and the flowers have fallen off already. What can ...

Is there a rule of thumb on how much manure to put around the tree when also composting?

Thanks. I was going to put some compost dirt in the hole which will have a very generous amount of rabbit droppings for fertilizer. I worry about that as well though. I read that apple trees don't like too much fertilizer so I don't know how much to put around the tree.

Well, I think this spring is when I'm going to plant my apple trees. I do have another question though. The apple trees will be going right where to old tree are currently planted. I'd say they are easily 20 years old maybe more. So there root system is nice and established. I was going to cut them ...

I was thinking about a sudden hard frost hitting during this time as well, (if we actually have a winter this year) and was wandering if layering the bottom of the tree with about a foot of leaves would act as a blanket for the roots.
