Re: Historical apple tree in Cape Town, South Africa - Varie

Looks like a Cox Pomona or Mére de Menage (also called Koningin Emma in dutch)
Does the color get orange-red or more purple when fully ripe?

I think it's very hard to discover which sort you have, only by searching for internet-pictures. There are so much local sorts which you won't find back on the internet,....

Japanese plum-varieties

Hi,
I'm from Holland and i would like to collect some japanese plumb sorts, but they are really rare here.
Beauty and Golden Japan was no problem, who can help me collecting other varieties?
Maybe at some european nursery or maybe someone would be so kind to send me scions?

Kind Regards,

Nynke

Tranparente de Croncels

Hi,
Couldn't it be the Transparente de Croncels? It is an european variety, known by it's clear skin. It ripes about a month later then the Yellow Transparent, and tasts less acid.

Google it;-)

ripen apples

When you can lift up the apple and it loosens easily, take a bite. Most of the time the pips are turned brown than. Some late apples need some storage(some weeks-months, depending in the variety) before they reach the best taste.
