Does your story take place in this century or is it earlier? If earlier, you might want to choose some of the lesser-known varieties that were more popular in earlier times.

Fuji Pollinator - Braeburn, Rome or Arkansas Black?

I've been reading up on trees that would make an appropriate "girlfriend" pollinator for my Fuji apple sapling. (I feel like a parent arranging a marriage here, LOL!) It looks like the "woman of choice" should be a Rome, Braeburn or an Arkansas Black. I'm not crazy about Rome apples, they are too mu...

God's Little Acre Nursery - San Jose CA

What a neat little place to visit! I bought my first apple tree here and it was really a fun experience. It's a home-grown nursery business, the kind that are becoming few and far between these days. The owner was friendly and helpful, and answered all my questions I had, plus offered suggestions an...

Here are a couple of photos. As mentioned before, the bucket is about to be replaced with a large, half wine barrel planter. The tree is a semi-dwarf. So I should prune those two sprouting branches shown in the second photo at ground level and right below the tag, right? http://i181.photobucket.com/...

Pruning- How much is too much for a sapling?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to growing apple trees. I've purchased a fuji apple sapling in a container, that has already been pruned with a leader and two "arms" on the sides. "Mr. Fuji-san" (yes, my husband has named our apple tree!) it is doing well and has a lot of new growth. The orchard...
