Re: Benchgraft anyone???

How long would it take to get a benchgraft apple tree to grow full size? We thought about planting some trees to keep our neighbors from seeing into our yard. i don't think apple trees grow fast enough to solve our problem.

Re: Store bought apples frozen?

I watched a TV program that said apples can be stored for a long time under the right conditions. I don't think you can freeze apples without damaging them on a cellular level. Plus where would you find a freezer large enough to store tons of apples?

Re: Grafting Question for Appledude

Is there anyway to post videos on the forum to demonstrate these various trimming techniques? I'm a novice and plan on trying to grow some apple trees this year. It would be great to see some videos on how to take my apple trees from seedlings to full grown trees.

Re: Dolgo Crabapple

How much did they cost to order? I always thought that you couldn't eat crab apples cause they are too bitter. Do they sell these in seed form, or do you have to purchase them already planted in the soil?

Re: Anna Boelens apple

Is there anywhere online to purchase unique types of apple seeds like Anna Boelen's apple? We have granny smith and red apples on our property. There's some room in back for a few more apple trees, but we want some that will grow well in the Midwest.

Re: What are the best apples for apple sauce?

Homemade apple sauce is so much better than the stuff in the can. You have to use a lot of lemon juice in the applesauce to prevent it from turning brown. They sell organic applesauce at the local store for about twice the price of the regular. I think I might try and make some this summer.

Re: How much of an apple is water?

Apples are a great source of water compared to other fruits. My dad told me when he was younger they took apple with them to work and used it to rehydrate themselves. It gave them a boost of energy, but thought it was a great way to get something to drink.

Re: Apple orchards sale info for Michigan ?

How much does the average apple orchard cost to purchase? Does an apple orchard require a lot of water to operate each season? There have been so many droughts lately that I wouldn't want to invest in an apple orchard until I knew it would get enough water to have a nice crop every year.

Re: Mystery Apples

Are there any types of Apples that are poisonous? I have seen some fruit that resembles apples on my property, but they are extremely bitter. Our horse won't even eat them and she loves apples. I'm sure if you took a picture of the apple and posted it on the forum you would be able to identify it.

Re: Green vs. red apples

I really prefer the flavor of green apples over red apples. The red ones remind me of high school lunches. I figured the green apples were higher in vitamin C because of the bitterness. What is the price difference of red and green apple seed for farming?

Re: How do I crossbreed apples?

Why would you want to cross breed apples? I thought that you could purchase hybrid seeds that have already been crossbred? I'm sure that it takes years of crossbreeding apple seeds to get it down properly.
