Re: Tremlett's Bitter

Is there a late flowering crab apple that I can plant nearby for pollinating Tremletts? My Kingston Black is also late starting this year.

Re: Introduce Yourself

I am Mike and have lived all over the USA. For the last 1.5 years in southern PA and plan on staying here. My parents took us to the apple orchards in MA and NH when I was a child where I immediately started enjoying apples - mainly Jonathon, Macs, Golden Delicious. I have eaten apples ever since. W...

Re: PLEASE help me find this apple in Canada.

I think this is Ananas Reinette. From the Apples of Antiquity web site "Russet freckles over gold skin. Crisp and juicy with intense sweet, sharp flavor, developing the pineapple flavor late in the season (its name means pineapple russet). Good for eating fresh, cooking and juice." can be found at h...

Re: Tremlett's Bitter & Ananas Reinette?

BTW - Ananas Reinette seems to be a long term bloomer. This is the first year it has flowered for me, however the branch tips started blooming first, now flower buds are forming all along the branches. I have flowers already past prime, just open/opening, and buds just forming so may be able to cros...

Re: Tremlett's Bitter

Tremlett's Bitter finally budded out last week. Golden Russet has not flowered yet so maybe it can be used to cross pollinate when my Tremlett's Bitter flowers (expect it flower next year).

Re: Introduce Yourself

Welcome to Orange Pippin. I am jealous you are able to plant so many trees. I have only one hectar here in S. Pennsylvania and my property is almost full with 14 apples (3 of them cidre), three plums, two quince, two pears, three peach, and two cherries. I could probably get another 8 trees in but t...

Re: Esopus Spitzenburg

Calville Blanc is susceptible to cedar rust. Mine was hit the just three months after I planted it. Saved it by spraying with Bordeaux spray. What are you using? MY other trees seem to have some resistance to cedar rust.

Ananas Reinette and Calville Blanc each set four fruit, still waiting on pollination results for my Golden Russet.

Tremlett's Bitter

I planted a Tremlett's Bitter in early March 2012 along with 11 other apple trees. All of the apples planted this year have budded out, however Tremlett's Bitter has not. I planted all new apple trees in enriched topsoil and watered thoroughly. Does Tremlett's Bitter set out new growth so late in th...

Re: Help! - I'm planting an orchard

Ginger Gold - sport of Golden Delicious but not so sweet, crisp, yellow apple with reddish blush. Should be easy to grow. Plan to add to my orchard on a one acre lot. I used this site and Trees of Antiquity to select the trees I grow. Mike

Re: CANKER? w/ Pictures

Maybe copper sulphate should be termed a naturally occurring fungicide. It is better than anything I have purchased from the store and not toxic to bees if sprayed at the right time of the day. I will do anything to help stop bee decline. Avoid nicotinyl products/insecticides including insecticides ...
