Re: Back Breeding or Cross Breeding

Exactly! I have always advocated bringing back all the speciation to nearly replicate the the original kind! I doubt there is much academic interest or spare university $$ to get the job done. Someday we might be able to dictate what DNA segments go into the synthetic DNA we are compiling, based on ...

Re: red cider

Some report the color not being stable sometmes, some turning orange. I cheat by using store bought sterile apple juice made by OceanSpray company and they include a healthy dose of cranberry juice right in it with its bright red color. A cup of sugar, quarter pack of champagne yeast, 10 to 14 days ...

Re: Can some apple trees out grow susceptibility to rust?

Maybe the question to ask is: can all apples be induced to be host to diseases if kept in an unhealthy state?

Just sayin' :-)

Interesting to think about though!

Re: Macintosh

With the availability of almost every type of apple all year round, why aren't Mcintosh apples? Surely somewhere they are growing Mac's when the season is over in Canada. I find that their window of peak quality is around a month or 45 days, max. I would not consider putting in a hundred acres of t...

Re: Dehydrating Liberty Apples

You could drizzle on some sugar mixed with cinnamon powder if they were too sour or you wanted to experiment a little.

Sounds like you have it dialed in, though.

Re: Apple a day may keep cardiologist away

Good post!

Pectin is a soluble fiber and soluble fiber is also found in oatmeal.

Soluble fibers in general are efficient at dragging cholesterol out of the human gut.

The slime of okra is also efficient at this.

Never tried snail slime though! LOL
