When you plant them, do not amend the soil with any mulch materials. Just use the native dirt that came out of the digging process.

Even tho they are small when they are mailed to you, give them plenty of room between trees. Find out how big they are really going to get, and do not crowd them.

Here is a pretty good page for starters. http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG0532.html click on any of the topics you want to study. It is best to read about grafting from a variety of sources, I found. The very best is to watch somebody do it, then it all makes sense real fast!...

Ask road maintenance crews what they have seen. They know everything in the general vicinity. Or a good mailman / mailwoman! Or a UPS/Fedex driver!

I think I have heard that it can take up to 5 years for all traces of juglone to be broken down. Might be a neat way of dwarfing a standard size apple tho!

No direct experience, but the folks at TAM in years past were doing research for that very problem using hawthorn rootstocks that were resistant, for apple stocks. The fellow that might know more is Mark Black. mblack@ag.tamu.edu 830-278-9151 ext 141 Screening native Hawthorn species (Crateagus) for...

There are some people in a town about 20 miles from me that have at least 200 kinds of apples. If you wait 10 more years, I will likely have 1000 apples, much to my wifes consternation!

I usually grow all my apple seeds out by planting them outdoors this time in winter, and by end of summer I have all these 1 and 2 foot tall seedlings that are perfect for grafting, albeit they are standard size rootstock and not dwarfing at all. If you have a smaller backyard or do not want a huge ...

When you need to graft a tree, you generally start with some kind of rootstock and graft a twig from the top portion of your favorite tree to the little rootstock. Usually, that is. I am uncertain as to what "Could anyone help me graft a sucker? How are apple trees grown if you don't graft one ...
