I use Bordeaux powder (I have to order it online because local merchandisers don't carry the powder) with success on cedar rust and fungus issues here in PA. The Bordeaux powder is a fine, gray powder that I mix up in my spray bottle with water.

Boomer - If you already have trees planted, try Bordeaux spray when you see the small yellow-orange specks on the leaves. I planted a Seckle and Magness pears. Thanks for the tip about straightening the branches appledude; already do on my apples and quinces. I was hoping that the weight of the pear branches as the tree matures would be enough to weight it down.

I have a Stanley plum that I planted one year ago on the east side of my house in south central PA. It gets full sun all day long. It grew well and even has flowered this year.
