I have crab apples by early june even in zone6! I do not think I could mess with something that bloomed in feb though... we get frosts till at least april if not throughout :(

Thats what they told me about blueberries, strawberries, grapes, peaches... I think cherries will be my next ones...

I just planted two 6 ft trees myself. I did not want to leave them in those cheap little black nursery pots in the heat, too little soil to keep the roots happy. Standard trees grown from seed, they will take around 8-12 years to mature. Also, Jonnagold is not a satisfactory pollinator! Unless you have a semi-self pollinating cultivar (Granny Smith is not unfortunatly), you are going to need either a good pollinator -or- a crab apple tree ( for both of your ...

Here is a table with a good selection of ciltivars with their cedar rust resistances. Just realise that cultivars which are resistant to red cedar rust may be very suceptable to Quince rust. Just realise, the seeds will grow into the type of apple that pollinated your apple, not the kind of apple the seeds came from!
