I use Bordeaux spray at first sign of cedar rust. At least this growing season here in PA, rust has not been an issue!

Re: Apple fruits
Was this the first year that your apples netted? Is this was the first year the trees bore fruit, perhaps it's in the genes? I will do more research.

Re: Japaness beetle oddity
I don't have Liberty however the Japanese beetles did not bother my apple trees. The tree they attacked was my Damson plum and left my other two plums alone. I got rid of the Damson so wonder which tree they will move to next?

Re: Stink Bugs
Are stink bugs territorial? Do they migrate during the year? I live in the country so if I remove stink bugs from my yard, it will only be a matter of time before I have more. I will try the sticky coffee pot method this year.

Re: mouse damage
What is the diameter of where the mice chewed? Are these mature trees? If so, then the mice will have chewed off the bark only and not the sapwood that carries the food to the rest of the tree. If they chewed into the Cambrian (the part that carries food to the roots), no idea what may happen. Are t...

This is the first winter I have had no deers cross through my yard. I guess when they smell the currants, they avoid the area. Black currants particularly are avoided by deers!

Re: Fearn's Pippin
Found out that planting currants (black currants in particular) in my orchard makes the deers avoid my trees This method of planting currants allows me to double harvest from my orchard. (Black) Currants in July and August and apples starting in Sept.

Re: Need Apple Tree Variety Advice
Also might want to give Ananas Reinette a try. I picked in early October if that is about the time you want. My tree has only been in the ground three years and it has produced only one year. It is a slow grower and the only insect bothering were ants bringing aphids to it. It is a dense, tart apple...

Re: Hello ;)
I have 20 apple trees on my one acre lot (also pear, plum, cherry, quince). The apple trees are on different rootstocks, however in my soil, the best rootstock is the M111. The M111 does well in sandy soil and is resilient to the weather here. One apple on an M26 rootstock did not survive a freak wi...
