Hello,
I am trying to ID the apple trees on my allotment & need help with one tree please.
I went to an apple ID day last year but only wrote down "Codling ....., Catshead" for 1 reason or another for my main tree. I recall the expert being in 2 minds & rushed. I am not convinced it's a Catshead now & I am battling to find out about Codlings as it is implied that there are many of these yet I can only find 3 on the web & one of those is yellow.
This apple has slight russet, is otherwise deep green, average size, tougher skin than others, not so sweet, not as rippled or 'mishapen' as a catshead can be, heavy cropper, early, mid Oct ripening...I do not know enough about apples to give any more information.
Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Codling advice/info please
You could try sending a sample to the UK national fruit collection for identification. "Codlings" seem to be a generic term for certain types of apples (a bit like "pippins"). Your description sounds a bit like Keswick Codlin except that would ripen a bit earlier in the season.
