Failed blossoms

Post by Stan »

Only one of my plums and none of my gages have bloomed yet. I made a point of not over fertilising my trees last year and all of my apple and pear trees are blooming or about to. what have I done wrong with my gages? all my trees are Supercolumns from Chris Bower.

Hi Stan, I assume you are in the UK. The blossom season for plums is over for this year (unless you are very far north). I am not familiar with the supercolumn format but if the trees are less than 2 years old they would not necessarily have blossom yet. You can post some photos here to get further advice.

I'm in NE Scotland so our season is a few weeks behind the south of the country. Most of the gages are the same size as my Victoria plum. The VP has been covered in blossom for the first time. I was just expecting the gages to be in bloom too but it's no big deal if they are a year or so behind. I'll post some pics later on today. Thank you. ;)

Dennistons Superb - I think there may be time yet for this one to bloom.
