We planted our new orchard in the Missouri River valley in Iowa. It's too early to tell how the trees will do long-term, but they did okay this year despite the drought.
First, we're wondering if anyone has had experience growing apples successfully in a river basin on heavy soils?
Second, they claim our water table to be 10-15 foot, others say it's more like 6-8 foot. How deep will apple tree roots typically grow?
Thanks!

Re: New Orchard Questions - How deep do roots grow
The size of the roots depends heavily on the type of rootstock you used. Semi-vigorous rootstocks will go down maybe 4ft or more over time, dwarf ones a bit less.
