Anybody use heavy construction paper around their new apple trees to discourage rabbits etc? How did/does it work?

Hello...Mullberry Grove: I have tried the commercial tree wraps and was not too impressed. They only lasted one winter with the rain and snow and take time to apply correctly....also, bugs tend to hide between the wrappings. For new trees I use a length of PVC thin wall drain pipe (4") diameter, slit lengthwise on a table saw and slipped over the trunk. They last many years and can expand as the trunk grows, easy to take off too. Helps protect trunk from weedwackers also. Best Regards for a good growing season. Mark in Buffalo :P
