Identify Mini-Apple

Post by jxmiller »

First post :) I moved into this house about 8 months ago and have several fruit trees I would like to identify. Here is the first. This is a small tree with many small apples. White flowers, early fruit has a brightly colored red/pink core. Last season when we first moved in the apples we tried were completely pink. I assume that early fruit has the center red / pink and the color spreads as it ripens ending with a pink flesh throughout. Taste is extremely tart and dry. Very hard dense apple. I am hoping I can make use of this apple somehow... First thing first... identifying the variety! These are current pics, so they are early. I have no photos of these full size and ripe. They get about 2-3 times the size of a golf ball at the end of the season. Thanks in advance.

It's quite difficult to identify apples at this point in the season, better to wait until they are ripe! It does sound like it could be one of the red-fleshed varieties.
