I have to go for a Honeycrisp that are grown in the North and picked in early October. Of the dozen or so varieties that I grow, and the other apples I've tasted, Honeycrisp is my favorite apple for it's unique crispness, flavor, and keeping qualities.

I have a couple of Cox crosses that I am hoping will produce soon - so my opinion may change!

Honeycrisp by far is the most popular apple at our site. One of the great things after being crunchy and tasty is that people can store them up to four months in the bottom of their fridge.

I love that they keep well, because I adore them! I just discovered Jazz apples and like them almost as much.

Yeah,Jazz apples are really good.

To the best of my (granted, limited ) knowledge, the cultivars that are available so early in the season (ie, June or July) are not new.

Nor do they much resemble the unique Honeycrisp.

I include the book because many apples that ripen during the summer months are indigenous to our South.

Might you be thinking of SweeTango? It came out a couple of seasons ago to rave reviews and bears some of the qualities of one of its parents, Honeycrisp
