Brown Spots

Post by kcurtder »

I live on the northeast coast of U.S. with-in a mile of the salt water.I recently purchased 2 apple trees, a honeycrisp and Macontash. The leaves on each tree are getting brown spots,is this insect damage?

Sort of, there are alot of spots. The spots are smaller and the color is more of rustic than brown color.

Looks like Cedar Apple Rust to me. Do you have Red Cedar trees in the area? Do you spray these trees?

I have a 2nd leaf Goldrush on MM.111 planted in 2010 that is showing some slight signs of CAR. Goldrush is a Disease Resistent tree, however it is slightly susceptible to CAR - my case seems to be more mild than yours. Take a look at my attached picture. Honeycrisp is also slightly susceptible to CAR, i'm adding 5 of those trees to my orchard in 2012. Not sure about MAC.
