True Winesaps in MD-VA-PA-DE-WV?

Post by terryt »

I'm looking for the old, tart variety of Winesap which used to be fairly easy to find in the DelMarVa region. Instead, I keep finding Stayman and "Stayman Winesaps" but these are sweeter, and not as dense.

Does anyone know of orchards selling true, old-style winesaps in this area?

Many thanks!

Hi Terryt,

In my collection here in Australia, I have the old original Winesap as well as Red Winesap amd Black Winesap and I have been looking for Blacktwig which came from Winesap heritage. I doubt that I could send you a scion because of import restrictions but you may get something like what you want by searching for these alternate Winesap names.

I still grow them and sell them at our Farm market in South Central PA. I ship anywhere in the USA.
