Perhaps I should not be surprised, but among the apples not yet listed under "Apple Varieties" is the Gordon apple. It is, by far, the best apple variety that I have been able to grow in coastal San Diego. Delicious, plentiful fruit every year-- great for fresh eating, applesauce, and pies.

My two trees took a long time to produce (five years or so), but they did OK with minimal care, until I got more interested in growing apples and started taking better care of them. I have ten other varieties that I am trying to grow (1 tree each)-- all are having at least some problems, and several are not thriving at all, but the Gordons keep going.
