List of Low-ish Chill Varieties?

Post by CaliforniaPoppy » Tue Aug 22, 2017 5:28 pm

Hi!

I'm new here and this is my first post. I live in California as you may have deduced from my username, so it doesn't get really cold here. However, I'm not in the southern part of the state, so I have a little more latitude in choosing varieties--I'm not restricted to just the extremely low chill varieties like Anna and Dorsett Golden. I planted a Gravenstein 3 years ago, and this year it bore 5 beautiful apples even though the tree is hardly more than 3 feet tall.

I would like to graft additional varieties onto this tree as it grows, since I only have room on my property for one apple tree. Is there a list somewhere that ranks the apple varieties by chill hours, so I don't accidentally end up grafting on a variety that will never bear fruit here?

Thanks!

I thought that there would be a list on Wikipedia (or applepedia or something like that) that would have just what you are looking for, but I cannot find it :( I have found an article from orangepippin about low chill apples, a paper on low chill apples and lots of lists of what certain orchids have but that is it. Sorry :(
