Question about apple fruits

Can anyone tell me the causes of this net that appears on Jonathan variety? I`ve seen it on Golden Delicious, but now it seems to appear on red varieties as well...
Looks like russet to me. Did you have particularly wet weather soon after pollination?
Some apples are rough and brown all over and russet is usually part of their name!
