Hi All,
With 10 years of drought here in Australia, I have been grafting most of my new apple trees on to MM111 rootstocks with reasonable success.
Now we have floods all over Australia and we have found that the MM111 rootstocks don't like wet feet - let alone spending a week or so under several feet of water.
What rootstocks do you use in USA where the ground is always wet.

I don't think you'll find any rootstock that can stand being under several feet of water.

You will want to look into Malus fusca as a swampy stock. I have a stand of it on pretty swampy ground and it does okay. Here and there I will decapitate one and mount a cultivar on it.
So far I have mounted the following to Malus fusca:
Whitney crab
Bramley
Rouville
Bell de Boskoop
Karmijn
They all bear normal sized apples.
Might be able to send you seeds of such fusca this winter if you remind me. Is it difficult to get apple seeds into Australia?
