1 y/o Granny Smith trees

I planted Granny Smith trees last year and it seems they did good through the winter, but when I looked at them last week I noticed that on the trunk of the tree there were black patches on them. What is it? Also why is the bark on the young Granny Smith trees a yellowish green color. I have a young orchard of about 325 trees and about 6 different varieties and have not seen this with any of them.
