Growing Apples in East Texas

Post by EastTexasApples »

All,

I own a small family farm in north east Texas near Tyler. I maintain a small orchard of about 100 fruit trees mostly peach and pear. I am looking to put in about 20-25 apple trees as the ones I currently have don't do much and get the spot pretty bad. I am looking for highly resistant varieties as we get fire blight out the wazoo and cedar rust along with spot. I need something that are early producers as it gets too hot for many fall crops. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good variety? I heard Enterprise Liberty or Freedom but after reviewing this site none of those seem especially suited for what i need.

Akane, Redfree and Zestar! are all earlier varieties with good disease resistance.
