Hang a peice of old spice soap on your trees. Also coat the main trunk with the soap. Deers hate things that have a strong scent.

Why wait until next year to spray? I would spray now to kill spores that fell to the ground that can be "knocked" up the tree during rains. I would spray Bordeaux on both the trees and the ground under the branches to kill any spores remaining.

I find the copper spray stops fireblight if you catch it soon enough. When I notice the spots on leaves, I start spraying all my trees. So far so good. Mike

Plant a crabapple to pollinate your trees. Crabapples in my collection include Nehou, Siberian, Hewes Virginia, and Whitney (are all good polliators). Nehou and Hewes bloom the longest. Check Orange Pippin or Trees of Antiquity for these crabappples.

Is Fearn's Pippin a tip bearer or do the flowers form along the branches? There were plenty of "spurs" but these turned out to be new growth. I fertilize it just like my other trees.

My Fearn's PIppin has been in the ground five years now and has grown well. However it has yet to flower. Is Fearn's Pippin a shy bloomer? How old does the tree have to be to start producing? It is on M26 stock. Most of my other tree have started bearing.

I also have trees on M26 stock that do well in clay soils. It takes about three to four years before they start bearing fruit though.
