Re: red fleshed apple

I am growing several varieties. This photo above looks like the dark red Pendragon juice Ive squeezed here. Redfield is not quite as dark. My favorite for eating is the Christmas Pink- watermelon texture and color -perfect at Christmas time. The Budogovsky rootstock apples are quite red too. I do se...

Diploids only pollinate others, never themselves, self sterile. Tripods are cannot pollinate anything but often produce fruit parthenocarpically -without fertilization.

Save seed and make your own new variety, patent it, don't share it, and make sure your a gi...

Re: Purchasing bulk apples/pears in the Halton Hills area

Can't help with sourcing. The varieties for cider are many Bitter, Tannic, Sweet, Acid and Aromatic. Put these together with multiples or find a varietal cider apple. Some of my favorite sweet and hard cidering apples are Ashmeads Kernal, Spitzenburg, Zabergau Reinette, Claygate Pearmain, and I just...

Re: New to Orange Pippin and apples

Keep em below 40 degrees if you can and above ~15 degrees (roots can be damaged and I don't know that T specifically). Prune minimally. Less is better imo. Establish a training system you want to use and stick to it. The rootstock used and variety matter primarily, ultimately so does your soil and c...

Re: deer fencing grant

First, have damage noted, cost out damage and then call your local Fish and Wildlife Commission folks as they are responsible for damage and will fence where needed. Otherwise they pay for the losses. At least that's the way it works here in Washington State.
