Re: Help! - I'm planting an orchard
I ordered my trees from http://www.TreesOfAntiquity.com . They have nice information on their site which tells what zones they grow, if they need pollination, a description the apple, and more. I don't know if you plan on going organic, but the trees they sell are organic. I like that many of their ...

Re: Help! - I'm planting an orchard
You could always look at apples grown by the University of Minnesota. They have produced many varities and the climate zone is lower than 5a. I'm from Mid-Michigan and zone 5b (maybe 6 if you look at the new maps) and many orchards around here grow Northern Spy apples. Jonathon is another good one.....

Re: Stanley Plums
Stanley plums are the ones I like the most. Every fall, my mom would buy some and I loved them.
I want to plant one of them in the next few years. Once I get my apple trees going in the right direction!

Stanley Plums
Anyone have a Stanley Plum tree? They are fairly common around Michigan. You see them a lot at farmers markets. Once I get my apple trees going, i'm going to plant a few plum trees.
Anyone else growing some plums?

Re: Cox's Orange Pippen
I got my Cox's Orange Pippin in the ground, but it has no buds yet so i'm going to hold off a little longer. They were planted this past Sunday and another tree is starting to bud, so shouldn't be too far behind!.

Re: Michigan Orchards out there?
Greyt.Chase, Where in mid-Michigan do you reside? Eastman Antique Apples is in Wheeler and has over a thousand varieties. They sell their apples at the Midland (and also Flint I believe) Farmers Markets on Saturdays. http://www.orangepippin.com/orchards/united-states/michigan/eastmans-antique-orcha...

Michigan Orchards out there?
I've made a pretty long list of apples that i'd like to try. Anyone out there in Michigan have some interesting apples growing in your orchard? I'm in the Mid-Michigan area but am willing to drive a bit for something interesting.

Very cool! I saw that photo on your blog yesterday (which, by the way, is a pretty cool blog). It's looking good. Waiting on my COP to come in, but they don't mail to 5b until mid April.

Re: Got a question for everyone
I am not sure what your experience is in apples but just as a reminder keep in mind rootstock and pollination when you make your selection. These people have fruit trees where it is very cold. I noticed they use a rootstock more suited for the cold. http://www.fedcoseeds.com/index.htm Randy I have ...

Re: Got a question for everyone
Thanks for the info! I'm going to put them on my list of apples to try this season! As for the trees i'm probably going to plant, they are all heirloom varities that i'm going to get in a bundle from Trees of Antiquity. Ashmead's Kernel, Cox's Orange Pippin, Northern Spy, Newton Pippin, White Pearma...

Re: Got a question for everyone
Luckily, there is local orchard that has TONS of varieties of antique apples. They claim to have 1,500 varieties and 4,000 trees. I'm sure that if I keep coming back to them and buying different apples, i'll find the exact perfect apple for my yard.
