Making Hard Cider

I have seen a lot of posts about buying cider...where's the fun and challenge in that? I would like to get into contact with some intrepid souls who actually make their own...I want to know what apple varieties they use (both single variety and blends) as well as problems and solutions. e.g.:

* has anyone else had a really bad fireblight season this year?
* What varieties had the most issues?
* Was it a good year for any particular variety?
* What varieties do you mix to get the right number of brix and still keep the pH right?
