Recommendations for cider apples in the states

Post by wtweten »

Hello. What are your favorite apple varieties for cider? I'm specifically interested in the various regions of the U.S., but would also welcome recommendations from other countries. Do Cox's Orange Pippin and Kingston Black perform well in a variety of areas, or are they more region-specific?

Thank you in advance; I value your opinions!

Cox Orange Pippin does not perform well in climates where summer average maximums are consistently above 86F. It prefers cooler summer climates. Also, Cox is not really considered a cider variety in England!

In England Cox is used in single variety cider, or hard cider as it is called in the US. It makes a beautiful cider, although your climate may be too hot, we had a week of 30C temp and ours got stressed. (Somerset)
