Hi!
I'm new here and this is my first post. I live in California as you may have deduced from my username, so it doesn't get really cold here. However, I'm not in the southern part of the state, so I have a little more latitude in choosing varieties--I'm not restricted to just the extremely low chill varieties like Anna and Dorsett Golden. I planted a Gravenstein 3 years ago, and this year it bore 5 beautiful apples even though the tree is hardly more than 3 feet tall.
I would like to graft additional varieties onto this tree as it grows, since I only have room on my property for one apple tree. Is there a list somewhere that ranks the apple varieties by chill hours, so I don't accidentally end up grafting on a variety that will never bear fruit here?
Thanks!

I thought that there would be a list on Wikipedia (or applepedia or something like that) that would have just what you are looking for, but I cannot find it I have found an article from orangepippin about low chill apples, a paper on low chill apples and lots of lists of what certain orchids have but that is it. Sorry

There is a great youtube video by dave Wilson nursery that has an apple block in Irvine ca. They planted 33 or so "high chill" apples and got apples off 31 varieties. It's worth a watch.
